My Thoughts on Recent Photography Trends

This might be controversial. But that’s ok…… It needs to be said. So here we go:

You do not have to be perfectly styled, with a long flowing maxi dress on a mountain top to have beautiful photos.

Lemme explain. There’s this big trend in the photography industry right now, where the style is learning more toward heavily styled and curated photoshoots. You’ll see families perfectly styled for their photos, moms all wearing the same long gown in a mustard, rust, or perfect flower print, kids are all coordinating with the perfect headpieces, and dad’s tailored to perfection.

You know what I’m talking about. We’ve all seen these photos. And I think this trend is putting a lot of pressure on us and giving the idea that all families need to look the same in their perfectly styled attire in order to have good photos. And that’s simply not true.

While I do love a perfectly styled family, or a photographer that offers a client closet, it’s just not my brand. I truly love to photograph my families as they are…because maybe you aren’t a maxi dress wearing mama. Maybe Dad insists on wearing his cozy half-zip with the north face logo on the chest, because that’s him, and he wants to look like himself in the family photos.

Individuality is OKAY, and you should be yourself! All families are beautiful, and that’s what I’m there to show you. Come as you are, and don’t worry too much about trying to look like everyone else’s photos.
